Three quick items today:
(1) The polls are open today, have been for three hours already
Although we as Greens may have no dog in the internecine primary
contests for the nomination of the corporate parties, Georgia is and
remains an open-primary state. That means that the law affords you the
opportunity to raid any party's primary you have a mind to participate
in.
Even if you could care less who the corporate parties choose to run
against one-another, many non-partisan races, including many judicial
races will be decided today.
If for no other reason, we hope you will go to the polls to vote NO on
TSPLOST, the one-percenters transit plan at our expense. If you need
some reasons why we as the Green Party are urging a NO vote on
transportation funding, please puruse the links below. And there are
other important questions on the ballot which demand we weigh in.
(2) HOLD THOSE DATES
Dr. Jill Stein, presidential nominee of the Green Party of the United
States, will arrive in Atlanta early Thursday evening for two days of
campaigning in metro area counties, before proceeding to stump in
Tennessee, Florida and elsewhere.
Your Party's state committee has been busy lining up an itinerary for
her visit which so far seems to include fundraising events both
Thursday and Friday evenings, a Friday morning press conference at the
state Capitol, plus dialogues over meals spent meeting with various
communities important to the ongoing struggles we face here in Georgia,
filled in with last minute petitioning opportunities and media
interviews.
If you can help with logistical and organizing support please call our
officers at 404-424-8750 x5. We need your help.
If you'd like to attend and participate in this coming weekend's
calendar of events watch our state party website and your inbox for the
developing details.
(3) Your help can put Greens on the Georgia Ballot in November
We're down to the deadline now. Our candidates must qualify by this
Friday at noon and our petitions must be filed by Monday, August 6th at
12:00 noon. Greens are out in force in Fulton County's House District
#57 today and across Glynn County where our candidates are making a one
day push asking Primary voters to sign our petitions. If you can lend
an hour or two of your time working a clipboard 151 feet outside a
polling place, if you can make the circuit to keep our volunteers
hydrated and fed or if you can help us in some other way, please call
Nan Garrett, our petition drive coordinator at 404-424-8750 x6. She
will get you connected and put petitions in your hands.
Today in Georgia, being peace and doing justice means helping to build
the Green Party. We cannot do it without you.
