Want Jill or Cheri at Your Event?

Jill's schedule for September is completely full and we're starting to fill her October calendar as well.  The same goes for Cheri.

Do you want one of them at your event?  Is there something huge going on in your area that we should be at?  Let me know today!

We've already gotten tons of event requests from all over the country, so it's time for the best of the best.  Put together a proposal for a day or two in your area and we may be able to get one of them there.

What makes a great proposal?  We need to be reaching out to people from many different communities, not just Greens.  Great proposals in the past have included speaking events with peace organizations, rallies at college campuses, marching with labor unions, etc.  They have great media opportunties and often contain at least one fundraising event.

Do you think your proposal will make the cut?  First, check out our guidelines for hosting Jill or Cheri-if you can't meet these guidelines, please do not send in your request.  After you've read these, fill out this form with all the required information.

I look forward to reading all of your ideas!

Best,
Tia Nowack

Where does the campaign stand financially?

Breaking NewsThank you to each of you who made contributions last week to close out the primary campaign season. Because of you, our first two TV ad campaigns ran nationally on all coasts and everywhere between, and we were able to make concerted ad buys in communities as particular as Duluth, Minnesota and Syracuse, New York, and as large as Portland, Oregon and Austin, Texas. These ads ran at the height of the Democratic National Convention, and they attracted media coverage and debate as well.
Because of you, we leave the primary season with limited debt, primarily for expenses related to ballot access, and we expect that nearly 9-of-10 voters will see Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala's names on their ballots.
Over the weekend, we switched gears, and moved into the general election season. This means we are soon to announce the hires of ten new staff people, all of whom are ramping up their efforts to get Jill and Cheri into the debates, organize Superrallies, organize key constituencies and communities, raise money, mobilize volunteers, and turn the Stein-Honkala ticket into the Green Party campaign you've been waiting for.
We're also about to make a critical decision: Can we afford to hire field staff to coordinate volunteers in different regions of the country? We have to make this decision now because it will take time to make the hires and to get our new staff up and running. And time, along with money, is an item we never have enough of.
Thankfully, we are surging forward. On Facebook, more than 50,000 people have "Liked" Jill Stein for President, up 250% from under 20,000 just two weeks ago. More voters will be able to vote Green in this election than ever before. And just today, a CNN poll showed Jill Stein at 2% of registered voters -- that's not where we intend to be on election day, but it's already almost 20 times the percentage received by our presidential nominees in recent elections.
As Jill often says, "we are taking this breaking point and turning it into a tipping point." This is the moment for us to do that. We've made it possible for voters to vote Green. We've put our presidential candidates on the national media stage. Now we must help Jill and Cheri win voters over to voting Green.
Thank you for making the primary campaign a success. Thank you for helping us pay off our debt from the primary season. And thank you for continuing to move forward with us into the general election so that we can deliver the demand for a Green New Deal for America.
  • If we raise just $10,000 by midnight on Tuesday, we will move ahead with plans to hire at least four regional field organizers.
  • If we raise $15,000, we will bite the bullet, and hire regional organizers covering every part of the country.
Every day in an election campaign is decision day. Please help us decide to expand our field team by donating now: http://www.JillStein.org/donate

Green Party Presidential Candidate: Two-Party System "Like an Abusive Relationship"

“The voices of ordinary people are locked out of the two-party system,” she said in a recent interview with Snellville Patch, “which is by and for the lobbyists and wealthy campaign contributors.”
Her running mate, Cheri Honkala, is visiting a tent city outside of the Republican National Convention called Romneyville, a tribute to Hooverville, a popular name for tent cities set up by unemployed and homeless families during the Great Depression. During the Democratic National Convention, they will set up Obamaville.
"It's suicidal to have this kind of political system," said Stein, discussing what sets the Green party apart from Democrats and Republicans. "We don’t accept corporate money because we are people powered, not money powered. We have the liberty to stand up and fight for the solutions the American people are clamoring for."

Are You Ready For Labor Day? (From JillStein.Org)

Since yesterday, when we launched our "Crashing the Conventions" drive, we've raised almost $10,000. That's pretty good, but we need to raise another $70,000 by Labor Day if we're going to break into the media this week. Read all about it by clicking here.
union-yes-jill-stein-cheri-honkala.pngLabor Day of course, is this Monday, September 3rd. On Labor Day, we recognize the past sacrifices of working people in their struggles for emancipation, and rededicate ourselves to the movement for workers power in the year ahead. Please join Jill Stein, Cheri Honkala, and the rest of the campaign team in marking this holiday by taking part in your local Labor Day events.
We know that many of you already have Labor Day plans for tabling, marching, and flyering. Check out our revised our flyer (CLICK HERE), and also have a special Labor Day editorial (CLICK HERE) by Jill Stein which you can print out and distribute.
Please be sure to contact HQ@JillStein.org to let us know how much you spent on copies.
If you have not already made plans, and don't know where to start, here are three easy steps:
  1. What to do: Round up a few other volunteers (friends, family, coworkers, you name it) ready to help get the word out on Labor Day.
  2. Where to go: Find your local Labor Day events here: http://local.americawantstowork.org/all
  3. What to bring: Plenty of copies of our halfsheet flyers (CLICK HERE TO PRINT OUT) and of our special Labor Day editorial (CLICK HERE), as well as other campaign materials you have on hand. Please be sure to contact HQ@JillStein.org to let us know how much you spent on copies.
Let's get the word out that while the bosses may own two political parties, working people finally have at least one: The Greens.

Let's Crash the Convention

crash-the-convention.png
As corporate lobbyists wine and dine the Republican and Democratic national committees in Tampa and Charlotte, Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala are beating at their doors.
Right now, Cheri is in the streets of Tampa with the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign and the tent city at Romneyville. Next week, Jill will arrive in Charlotte. And soon, with your help, we'll all be beating the drums of social progress together, as we launch our first major media campaign!
That's right. We may be coming to a cable channel near you. We've hired one of the most famous political advertising firms in the country. We've cut the ads. And the only question is how many millions of voters will see these ads.
We have until Thursday, September 6th, to raise at least $80,000. If we succeed in doing that, our ads will run in college town media markets from the Pacific to the Mississippi to the Atlantic. If we raise $120,000, we'll have viewership in medium sized cities of population 500,000 to 2 million. And if you help us raise $200,000, we'll be on in at least a couple major metropolitan areas.
stein-as-shoot-1.pngThe more money we raise, the higher chance that YOUR community will see one of these ads (you can see sneak preview pics from the shooting of these ads at right).
The timing is vital. The primary season ends on Thursday September 6th. This means that you only have until September 6th to get your contributions matched, dollar for dollar, up to $250, with federal matching funds. And this means that you only have until September 6th to donate the maximum allowable contribution of $2500.
stein-ad-shoot-2.pngTime is running short for another reason. We have to buy these ads now, well ahead of September 6th, so that these ads actually run in the primary season. Federal law requires that our matching funds monies be used in the primaries, by September 6th, and this means that we must reserve our cable and TV ad times right now.
See the graph below to get a sense of how many college town, medium city, and major metro media markets we can reach at each level of fundraising. And please donate right now: http://www.JillStein.org/donate
MEDIA-REACH-STEIN.png
Please donate right now: http://www.JillStein.org/donateThe more we raise, the more ads people will see, and the more we break through the noise of the political conventions.

Let's crash the conventions!

Voting for Jill Stein in Georgia

The Green Party of Georgia is now engaged in an effort to have Dr. Jill Stein recognized as a legitimate write-in candidate in Georgia. The Coordinating Council of the GPGA have moved forward with this initiative and are planning to run the required legal notice in the AJC to make it a reality.
They need to raise funds in order to do this, and they have a week to do it.
If you would like to make a donation, please contact Al Herman, the Green Party of Georgia Treasurer, personally.
You can contact him at (678) 662-6346 or email him at cinerguy@mindspring.com

Close The Gap (From the Jill Stein for President Campaign)

Last week, I told you that we needed to raise $45,000 in one week, and explained why (see message below). We have raised $28,000. We need another $17,000 right now.

We are making incredible progress. Four more states joined the Green surge in the last two days. Iowa. Idaho. Minnesota. Montana. (If you check out our ballot access map (click here) you'll notice how much greener it is, and that there are a few states that we'd given up on that we are giving another shot).

But we won't receive our first matching funds check for another week, at the earliest. That is what the Federal Elections Commission has told us. And our ballot access costs must be paid right now.

This is still a make-or-break moment. We need your donations right now.

Please pull our remaining states through, get them on the ballot, keep the green surge going and donate now.

    Thank you.

LAST WEEK'S MESSAGE FOLLOWS:

Dear Joshua,

I have some great news for you, which we'll get to in a moment.

First, a multiple choice question: What is the difference between 45 and 32 ballot lines?

  (a) Being a serious contender for the presidency vs. running a symbolic campaign.
  (b) Ask voters in states ranging from Virginia to Montana, where we're not yet on the ballot.
  (c) $45,000.
  (d) All of the above.

Yes, (d) All of the above is the correct answer.

We are all in this together, to bring Jill Stein and Cheri Honkala to voters across the country, so that our message of peace, justice, and democracy is taken up by millions of people this November.

This week, we secured four more ballot lines! The hard work of volunteers and staff in Kansas, Maryland, Washington, and Wisconsin mean that voters in those states will be able to vote Green. That is great news.

Here is the hard news. We didn't make it in Connecticut or South Dakota. And we are scrambling right now in New Hampshire.

This is make or break. This week decides everything. And we are nearly out of money.

We need $45,000 right now. Won't you please contribute as much as you can? Click here.

"Out of money," you ask, "how can that be, when we've qualified for federal matching funds?"

The answer is, that yes, we qualified. But the check, as they say, is not yet in the mail. We've been operating without those funds. And we won't get them in time to pay the urgent expenses for our petition drive in the remaing states.

We really, really need you to make a donation right now. If you've donated before, please donate again. If this your first time, please give as much as you can.

This is the hot season for getting on the ballot. Unfortunately, it is the cool season for presidential fundraising. We're finding that many people are on vacation right now, either physically or mentally. We know it's August. If you are reading this message, you are the ones we are counting on to put us over the top.

The maximum an individual can donate to the campaign before September 6th is $2500. The first $250 of your donations will be matched with public financing. Every single donation, no matter how small, helps.

Please. Jill Stein is petitioning today in New Hampshire. Our core campaign team was petitioning yesterday in Wisconsin. Cheri Honkala was out in the heat in Pennsylvania for weeks gathering signatures. We need you to give us the financial support to put the remaining states on the ballot right now: http://www.JillStein.org/donate

Thank you.

Obama cleared path for Ryan; Greens offer only alternative to austerity agenda, say Stein, Honkala

In elevating deficit reduction to his highest priority and setting up the deficit reduction supercommittee in 2011, President Obama made it clear that benefits programs were on the chopping block and that he would negotiate with Republicans on how to curtail them. Now, Representative Paul Ryan’s budget is in the spotlight, which also threatens services that millions of Americans depend on.
“Ryan's extreme budget ideas were rejected by Congress, including many of his own Republican colleagues,” said Stein. “Americans value Medicare and Social Security, and do not want to be the sacrificial lambs for deficit reduction, especially when they see the massive waste in the private health insurance industry, the bloated Pentagon budget, and the backroom Wall Street bailouts.”

After Oak Creek terrorism, Stein calls for FBI to act on the white supremacist threat

STOP_HATE.jpg
Last Sunday’s terrorist attack at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin is a "clear wake-up call that the nation is not adequately addressing the terrorism threat from white supremacist groups," warned Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein following an address to a major veterans group, Veterans for Peace, at their national convention in Miami this weekend.

Stein said that, “It is long past time that the FBI show it understands that white supremacists, not pacifists or environmentalists, are the real threat to American security.”

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: A candidate goes to jail

BY JILL STEIN
philadelphia_inquirer.jpgWhen I decided to run for president of the United States, spending the night in a Philadelphia jail cell was not part of my strategy. But I and my running mate on the Green Party ticket, Cheri Honkala, found ourselves in handcuffs this month after we refused to leave the Philadelphia building housing the regional headquarters of the mortgage giant Fannie Mae.
We were there to support two women whose families faced unjust evictions by Fannie Mae, as well as the eight million other families who have faced foreclosure at the hands of Wall Street.
One of the women we were supporting, Rhonda Lancaster, has lived in her home for 35 years. She took out a second mortgage to pay her ailing mother's medical bills. After her mother died, a bank moved to take the house and throw Lancaster out on the street. She is still fighting a potentially imminent eviction.
