Do You Really Own Your Computer
Do you really own the smartphone or computer you’re using to read this email?
If you sold your computer, would you be breaking the law? A federal court in New York says you would be.
It's unbelievable, but trademark and copyright holders really are trying to take away your right to sell things that you own. Please click here to fight back:
http://www.youvebeenowned.org/
The First-Sale Doctrine gives us the right to sell most property we own. But if the Supreme Court supports the lower court’s decision, we won't really “own” anything if it's from a different country. We expect them to issue a ruling later this year.
The President can urge the Court to side with consumers; then Congress will probably weigh in on the issue, no matter how the Court rules.
If we lose this fight, anybody who wants to resell foreign products, from Macbooks and iPhones to our clothing and textbooks, will have to ask copyright holders for permission first. And they'll have the right to deny it!
It's bad for so many reasons: It'll undermine Craigslist and Ebay, hurt the environment, increase incentives for manufacturers to move jobs off-shore, and effectively ban the traditional American yard sale.

Tell the Bureau of Land Management: Stop fueling global climate change
As climate change bears down on us, you'd expect our government to cut back on burning our dirtiest fuels, like coal. Instead, we're just giving it away to coal companies.
On Thursday, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to give Peabody Energy the rights to 721 million tons of publicly owned Wyoming coal for about $1 a ton, just so Peabody can sell it in Asia for $80 a ton, unleashing a massive amount of climate-change causing carbon pollution in the process.
Coal companies get a huge windfall, the U.S. government gets a pittance in revenue, and climate change gets worse for all of us. Yet unbelievably, this lose-lose scenario is standard operating procedure for BLM. That needs to change.
Tell the Bureau of Land Management: Stop the dirty coal giveaways and stop subsidizing climate change. Sign the petition by clicking the link below.

PETITION: End Too Big To Fail
Generally when you gamble, you put your own money at risk. And if you lose, you pay up.
But when it comes to our nation’s largest financial institutions, it works a little differently -- they gamble with other people’s money (and the stability of the American economy), and if they lose, they expect the government to cover them.
It’s a principle we’ve all come to know as Too Big To Fail (TBTF). And even though TBTF institutions nearly toppled the American economy in 2008, they’ve continued to grow.
To me, this is simple -- Too Big To Fail is justtoo big. That’s why I’m joining with former Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold and his organization, Progressives United, to build momentum for placing sensible limits on Wall Street mega-banks and protect American taxpayers. Click here to join us in the fight to end Too Big To Fail policies today.
Over the last 15 years, the assets of the largest U.S. banks have grown and grown.
And thanks to the size and complex activities undertaken by these institutions, not only are they too big to fail, they’re too big to manage -- and even the best managed firms are fraught with risk.
These banks have already borrowed billions from the Federal Reserve, and received tens of billions in TARP funds from the federal government.
We need to make sure that taxpayers will never again be held responsible for risks taken by America’s largest gamblers -- Wall Street mega-banks.
Senator Feingold and I are reaching out to our online networks to try and win this fight. Placing appropriate size and leverage limits on ‘too big to fail’ institutions, and preventing any future taxpayer bailouts is a critical national priority. Click here to join us today.
We cannot allow the American economy to ever be at risk because of the size of Wall Street banks. Too Big To Fail is just too big.
We want to make sure what happened in 2008 never happens again. Senator Feingold and I hope you’llsign on and join us today.
Thank you.

Sherrod

What Do You Think About Obama?
I took the opportunity to take this survey and let the president's campaign know that I didn't support him and WHY I didn't support him. If you want to take the opportunity to answer the survey, the link's below.
I've written you quite a few emails. Today, I want to hear from you.
Because at 19 weeks out, every decision we make today is more important for this election than the decisions we made yesterday. From staffing plans to on-the-ground organizing strategies, these decisions will only get more important from here.
You're someone who's let us know at some point that you stand behind this president, and you have a stake in how we grow the most effective grassroots army possible between now and November. So we want to hear it straight from you: What's working? How can we inspire more people to join us? And how's this election shaping up from your perspective?
Please take a minute to answer a couple questions here.
What you tell us is going to help shape our strategy to inspire other supporters to help grow this campaign. You'll help determine the very best way we can communicate the President's accomplishments to the rest of the country.
I'm asking you because supporters like you have driven this campaign from the very beginning. The President has counted on you to get us here, and how we move forward from now until November 6th is up to you.
So here's your opportunity to weigh in and let us know what you think:

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Thanks,
