Presidential Candidate Buddy Roemer on Campaign Finance Reform

Shoutouts to Martin Childs and Russ Winter

"Those that dream by night, in the dusty recesses of their mind, wake in the day to find that all was vanity, but the dreamers of the day, are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams and make them real."

Country Before Party Money Bomb

From the Buddy Roemer for President Campaign:

Team,

We are in the process of changing history – but we need your help to do it.

Last Thursday, from the headquarters of Yowie.com, Governor Roemer held an online speech where he proudly stated, “I’m not interested in building a party, I’m interested in building America.” The speech announced his decision to drop his bid for the Republican nomination and become an Independent candidate for President. We will seek theAmericans Elect nomination and continue to build a coalition that transcends boundaries and includes the best of America’s voices calling for reform and better government. Our coalition will include the Reform Party, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Occupiers and Tea Partiers – everyone who wants to have a real choice in this November’s election. With this coalition, and with Governor Roemer’s leadership, the special interests that control our government have no chance.

With that said, we need your help to continue this campaign. There is another path, but we need millions of Americans like you, who are fed up with the status quo, to join the fight. Today, we begin our week-long “Country Before Party” Money Bomb. Please donate any amount, up to $100, but most importantly, tell your family and friends about our campaign to change America. With a limited budget and little name recognition, we depend on YOU to spread our message of ending corruption and partisan gridlock in Washington.  Soon, every household in America will know Buddy Roemer’s name - but only if you help us to spread the word.

Join us,

Carlos Sierra
Campaign Manager

P.S. – In case you missed it, make sure you watch Buddy’s speech at Yowie and his appearance on C-SPAN.

'Quickly, Inject the Dream" By Henry Rollins

I have nothing to add to this, this is all Henry, and it is GREAT!

I pick up an unplugged phone and hear static. Then, I hear Joe's voice. He says he's in an energy field and the reception is bad. He says it's nothing but energy out there. No love or hate, no judgement. He says he's meeting a lot of people and none of them really know what's going on except that life is just the start. He says life on Earth is a lightweight experience, a trial to see how you deal with energy, within the vanity of the human form. You think you know it all but you really know nothing. He goes on to say that suicide is a joke. You might as well stick it out as long as you can in your flesh because you eventually end up where he is anyway. You might as well get your kicks. He says that there's nothing to worry about and that people spend too much time worrying on Earth. He says that people take life too seriously because they are convinced that's all there is and that's why they make war and kill each other and try to be the boss all the time. He says there's no cops where he is. He says it all made immediate sense to him as soon as he was out there. He says that I should hang in there and have a good time and be good to people even when they're bad to me. He says he doesn't envy the living. He says we carry too much fear and it's weighing us down, that we spend all our time trying to find the real meaning of life and it's right in front of us but we're too scared to see it. He tells me the rest was up to me. He fades out. I hang up.

Buddy Roemer says, "Stand With Me"

Team,

This Republican primary race has been unlike any we have ever seen.  The partisanship, negative campaigning, and PAC and Super PAC money are out of control.  We’ve had so many different front-runners, and yet there is still no clear leader in this race.  People are not satisfied with their choices and with the divisions being created in a time when the nation needs to come together and fix our economy.

It is time to heal our nation.  It is time to build a coalition of Americans who are fed up with the status quo and the partisan gridlock that infects Washington.  Together, we will take on the special-interests that control our leaders and end we would end the corruptive influence of money in politics so we can focus on America’s top priority – jobs.

I have decided to take my campaign directly to the American people by declaring my candidacy for Americans Elect as an Independent.  Also, after many discussions with The Reform Party, I am excited to announce my intentions of seeking their nomination.

I hope you will join with me in this cause.  I will be delivering a speech tomorrow to present my plans moving forward so that you can hear my vision for bringing the country together.  Please tune in to the live stream at http://www.yowie.com/videochat/5u1-buddy-roemer.  Staff will be live-tweeting my speech at www.twitter.com/buddyroemer and posting on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/buddyroemerand on my Google+ http://bit.ly/zJCuI1.

I hope you will also spread our important message by forwarding this email to all of your friends and family.  I have chosen not to accept campaign contributions over $100 per individual, and accept no PAC money or Super PAC money, and not to buy my way to the presidency.  Volunteers and supporters like you make this campaign possible by sharing my message one person at a time.

Together, we can change America.

Buddy Roemer

Doing so is supporting an end to corruption, a balanced budget, an end of money in politics and a system that works for the people, not the multi-national corporations.

My Trip to Manchester, Part 1

Some writers might start off with, “And there I was, on a Greyhound bus to Manchester. Off to work on my first presidential campaign.”
But I don’t want to do that, instead, I want you to understand what had gotten me to this point. I was born the same year that Clinton got elected. 1992. But I never really remember hearing people talk a lot about Clinton, I can’t even say that in my first eight years of life I knew that our president was Clinton or that we even had a president. That’s all a little bit fussy. But I do remember having a good sense of who Bush was. This could be that because from the time I was eight until I was a sophomore in high school he was president.
Looking back on how I got involved in politics, I think now that it’s funny I ever got mixed up in electoral politics. Politicians always seem to be a part of the problem, not of the solution. My interest in politics was really inspired heavily by my initial reading of the book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, mixed of course with George Orwell’s 1984. All of this was wrapped up in my admiration for the intellectual, counter-culture movement of the Hippies in the 1960’s. The ir method was to infiltrate the system. If what we have in now are a bunch of Berkeley graduates, Woodstock attendees, former inhabitants of Haight-Ashbury and Flower Children, then I conclude that one thing must be very true, “Power corrupts and Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.”
And if I look at the two books mentioned above, it doesn’t seem that it’s a matter of trying to change the system from the inside. Winston and Jill (?) tried and failed to change the system from the inside, and the whole concept in Ishmael is that we each must learn to free ourselves from the grip of Mother - Culture. Her incessant whispering turns us into unquestioning clones. We ask no questions, seek no answers. Accept truths that have no truth to them. If the authority tells us that it is true, it must be true, if the authority tells us it is false, then it must be false.
I was never prone to living that way. My dad had raised me using some very interesting methods. When I asked him a question he would never admit he didn’t know, he would make something up, or sometimes he would know and he’d intentionally lie anyway. He admitted this later and said it was to get me to look things up. I grew up with an encyclopedia in my lap and a pencil in my hand. I learned to be self-sufficient in finding answers, and it got to the point where I couldn’t just scratch the surface, I had to excavate the entire site. Reading these two books only solidified what my dad, and probably a bit of biology, had already started. And were it not for this curiosity, this inability to be satisfied with any amount of information anyone else gave me, I would have never stumbled upon Governor Buddy Roemer, the candidate I was going up to Manchester to support, the candidate I still do support and will continue to support through to the very end.
The 2010 General ‘Midterm’ Election wrapped up in November of 2010. By March of 2011, five months later, I was already looking at presidential candidates, and there were probably already 50 filed with the FEC at this point. On March 3rd, 2011 Governor Roemer announced that he was forming an exploratory committee. I’m not sure who all was in at this point, but I knew I wasn’t settled on a candidate. I couldn’t tell you when exactly I did settle on a candidate, but I think it was between the first debate on May 5th and the beginning of June. I did not come to Governor Buddy Roemer first. Actually I was more interested in another Governor, Governor Gary Johnson from New Mexico. I was so excited about this guy. He was going to end all war, shut down all embassies, he had private and public sector experience, he was an athlete who’d climbed Mount Everest, he was going to liberally move forward on drugs, saying that by ending the War on Drugs we would save money and lives, and he was going to liberally move forward on LGBTQIAP rights. But as the summer progressed, I realized that all that glittered wasn’t gold. So somewhere between September 18th and October 13th I stopped being a Gary Johnson supporter and started supporting Governor Roemer. I stopped supporting Governor Johnson because he’s an apologist for Wal-Mart who thinks that the corporation saved rural America. He also believes that they don’t intentionally use child, slave or sweatshop labor. I figured I could learn to like the Fairtax, but I would NEVER learn to like that. I was furious, and in a couple of blog posts, I walked away.
So I spent the next month ‘In the desert,’ as it were. I was lost, without a candidate or a movement to cling to. Still blogging and still tweeting, still trying to figure out who I was and how I was going to protest everything that fed the fire in my belly. And by October 13th, it seems, I had arrived whole heartedly at Buddy Roemer, the anti-corruption candidate who was sympathetic with Occupy Wall Street and who didn’t take any big corporate money. If someone accused me of having a thing for underdogs, I’d have a hard time debating against the accusation, but it seems that in this particular situation an underdog is set up because they don’t have the right beliefs or the right financial backers.
So when Dan Dubrule, a volunteer coordinator for the Roemer campaign, offered to pay for me to ride up in a Greyhound to volunteer for the campaign, I jumped at the opportunity. On December 2nd, 2011 at 2:30 my bus pulled up, I got out of my dad’s white Chevy S-10 and I walked over to the Greyhound. The greatest experience/adventure of my life to date was about to begin and as I got on the Greyhound the only thing I could think was, “Where am I going to sit!”

This Is A Little Creepy

On Monday, June 6th, 2011, I posted this on my blog:

"Rick Santorum – Former senator of Pennsylvania . He has about as much attention as Pawlenty, probably hopes to be able to garner as much support as the last Senator to run for President…"

Now that Rick Santorum is coming up the pack in delegates and is the media proclaimed front runner at the moment, I'm finding this eerie..

Not too long of a reading on that, but I thought it was interesting and just wanted to share it.

LOVE

THAT’S IT!

I’m tired! I’m tired of all the negativity. Of all the hate and all the anger. I’m tired of people who are so drug down they try to take the whole world with them!

I only get one life to live, and I don’t want to live it this way.

I’m not lying or over exaggerating when I say I LOVE everyone. Most of the time I when write Love I write it with a capital ‘L’. It is an action, a way of life, a thought, a philosophy! Live to Love, Love to live!

What is in your heart? Do you want to be the person that starts fights? Who goes on Youtube videos just to talk down some artist other people look up to and admire? Do you want to build up the world around you, or tear it down?

It makes me SICK! These are the types of things that have me up all ours of the night crying.

LONG LIVE LOVE!

P.S. I'm thinking of a new idea to spread positive energy. I'm going to share one thing that made me smile everyday (similar to the 365 Days of Happiness, I know) and I'm also going to try to express to at least one person a day a reason why they have to have a positive outlook on life or how they influence my positive outlook on life, positively

Are you up to do the same?

If you have any thoughts or ideas on how to share and spread Love and positive energy, please feel free to email me.

With Love,

Obama's Progressive Credentials: Appointments

Do you get emails from MoveOn? I do, have you seen the petition to President Obama to cut Monsanto's ties with influence? Even though this petition only asks for Michael Taylor, a former Monsanto VP and lobbyist to step down, it is still fighting part of the fight and still shows that Obama is not a Progressive. Theodore Roosevelt is rolling over in his grave.

Obama’s Progressive Credentials: A Hawk in a Dove's Feathers

Okay ladies and gents! I know it’s a bit overdue, but here it is! The second installment of Obama’s Progressive Credentials! Don’t forget to join the conversation about Obama’s and other candidates Progressive credentials on Twitter by using the hashtag #ProgCred.
So Obama campaigned in 2008 as The Dove. He wanted to contrast both George W. Bush and John McCain. He said he would close Guantanamo Bay and he would pull out of Afghanistan and out of Iraq.

(I guess Obama and Greg never did figure out exactly how to close gitmo and what to do with the prisoners. To this day, it is still open.)

And he did! We're out of Iraq... Well almost, we still have an Embassy there and war isn't over, not by a long shot.

We'll be in Afghanistan until 2013 under his current trajectory. He moved 500 troops from Iraq to Kuwait, instead of bringing them home. Let us not forget Obama ordered the murder of Anwar Al-Aulaki, a U.S. citizen, without a trial. This from the candidate who stood against torture and campaigned on closing Gitmo? Not only is what he did unconstitutional, it's hypocritical!
I also want to Mention JSOC, or Joint Special Operations Command, which is a President's way of waging war without drawing too much attention to it. A 'dove' president wouldn't want the public, especially the people that voted for him, to know that he was using special operations forces, would he? Especially when he uses them to kill American citizens.
Granted, if Osama Bin Laden and Ghaddafi are dead – have any independent groups verified this? – These are good things. Even FDR went to war with Hitler. But my research suggests that no independent groups have verified this. Maybe I've been reading George Orwell too much lately, but I don't tend to believe something just because my government claims it to be true.
And how many innocent people died in this presidents attempts to kill Ghaddafi? "According to the Libyan Health office, the airstrikes killed 1,108 civilians and wounded 4,500 by July 13." - How Many Innocent People? People who look just at numbers might say, well for war, that's not too bad! How desensitized we have become! Every person who dies, every innocent person, is someone's son, daughter, brother, sister, father, mother, cousin. These are real people with real lives who got caught between a tyrannical leader and the American who stopped him. But if we look at the tactical use of JSOC, which Obama has proved he isn't afraid to use, then why in the world would he need to bomb Libya to kill Ghaddafi and end the civil war? Will he justify his decision by saying the number of innocent lives taken would have been higher had he not bombed Libya? Was he afraid that a group he had twice used successfully before might fail him in Libya?
I think I could tie it back to money. IBM and GE, two big parts of the Military Industrial Complex, both donated $500,000+ to the Obama for President 2008 campaign - OpenSecrets.Org - And if I were them, I wouldn't mind a return on my investment in the form of having the government purchase my expensive drone and bombing technology.
Obama is nothing but a Corporatists, Opportunist, War-Mongering president. He is not a Progressive when it comes to war, and as long as he has the collar of the Big Corporations around his neck, we don't stand a chance.

And just for fun, I thought it might be nice to look at how well occupied the Middle East is by the United States Government:

Next time you see a homeless person, or someone who can't afford healthcare, or a warm meal. Next time you see a student drowning in Public and Private loans and yet they cannot find work, think about how much this costs the government (That would be some percentage of the $700 Billion the government spent for 'National Security' in 2009 - Institute For Policy Studies).

Always Questioning,
